Create a Mental Prompt of Public Speaking Skills

We all have the capacity to ‘see’ things  in our minds eye. I use this natural ability to as a mental prompt to use to occasionally remind my of the skills that matter – even while I am speaking to an audience!

A few weeks ago I sat down and noted the core issues that are mission critical to good presentation delivery. I then drew colourful icons for each one on a sheet of  paper. I posted piece of paper in my car, office and bathroom . After a few weeks I had committed the screen to memory. Now  the great thing is that if I want to check my presentation skills against core competencies during a presentation, I can do so quickly and easily. I simply ‘see’ this mental screen in my minds eye and quickly remind myself of the core issues related to successful public speaking.

If you want to create your own mental screen here are some key competencies you might want to focus on:

• Eye Contact
• Gestures
• Facial Expressions
• Voice – tone and tempo
• Movement
